IRISH HILLS CHAPTER HARLEY OWNERS GROUP

GROUP RIDER RESPONSIBILITIES

Riders of different abilities and performance levels in close quarters all need to know exactly what a rider is going to do and when.

Thus, the following suggestions for your information:

1. Riders who choose to follow in a group must do just that, follow. If a mistake is made, follow in a group until it can be safely corrected. Example: Missed turned, missed exit.

2. Each signal is passed back by every rider so you can be sure everyone is informed.

3. Each rider has a responsibility to be aware of the bike beside & the two bikes behind them. (Spacing, Relaying signals)

4. Clearly communicate your intentions with as much extra information with your left hand.

5. A rider should be visible in the mirror of the bike ahead of them. If you can see their face in their mirror, you know they can see you.

6. Maintain a steady pace with as few drastic speed changes or sudden moves as possible.

7. Ride as if your Harley is as long as the whole group behind you.

8. When a lane change is signaled, do not move until the front road captain does. Rear road captains will pull out and block lane before group lane change occurs. Follow front road captain!!!

9. Inform the front road captain of your needs, (Fuel, Bathroom, Warm-up, Problems, etc.) If you don't want to ride with the group, you may obtain directions from the road captain.

10. When passing on two lane roads, pass single file and return to formation ASAP, allowing room for the next bike.

11. In city riding, when making turns, if light changes and you are into the turn, complete turn. If you are left at the light, the group will be pulled over to the right of the road when possible. When not possible, group will continue in right lane at reduced speed until group is reformed. DO NOT RUN LIGHT!!! DO NOT PANIC!!!

12. If a bike drops out, the rear Road Captain ONLY, will drop out with that bike and inform the lead Road Captain on the CB. The group will continue until a safe spot to stop is found. Exception are possible if the road is not busy or has a large shoulder. If the group stops on the side of the road all bikes will lineup in single file as far right as possible.

13. If you leave your place in the group, re-enter at the rear in front of the rear road captains.

14. Headlights on at all times so the Road Captains can tell who is with the group.

15. Road Captains should have and use CB radios. The Chapter will use channel 15 on the Citizen Band radio.
